Uganda continues to face one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Africa, with an estimated 25% of girls becoming teenage mothers. Many of these young mothers are left without proper family support or education, forcing them into poverty and shattered dreams.
At Kairos Building Bridges Organisation Uganda (KBBU), we believe that every young mother deserves a second chance — a chance to rebuild her future, support her children, and live with dignity.
Through our Skilling and Hands-On Program, we provide education, vocational training, and startup support to empower teenage mothers and vulnerable young women. Our goal is not only to help them survive but to equip them to thrive — spiritually, socially, and economically.
“She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.” — Proverbs 31:17
Our Approach
We intervene in two main ways:
1. Back-to-School Program – helping young mothers return to formal education.
2. Hands-On Skills Training – offering practical vocational courses and startup packages to launch sustainable businesses.
Each graduate receives the necessary equipment to start work immediately in her chosen field — transforming not only her own life but her entire household.
Major Training Activities
Soap and Detergent Making
Soap and detergents are household essentials, ensuring a constant demand. Trainees produce and market their own products within their communities.

Hairdressing and Styling
Hairdressing remains one of Uganda’s fastest-growing small business sectors. Our skilled trainees gain a competitive edge to start salons or gain employment in established ones.

Cosmetology
With the cosmetics industry expanding and local raw materials becoming cheaper due to Uganda’s oil refining prospects, our women can create affordable, high-quality beauty products.

Bakery and Confectionery
Baking skills open doors to employment in bakeries or entrepreneurship through local catering businesses — enabling women to create jobs for others as well.

Crafts and Art
We train women in HandCraft making, connecting their creations to international markets in Europe and the USA, thereby expanding income opportunities.

Catering and Hotel Management
With Uganda’s expanding hospitality sector, our catering trainees are equipped to work in restaurants and hotels or launch their own food businesses.

Decorations and Interior Design
Uganda’s vibrant event industry offers countless opportunities for skilled decorators. Our graduates can join event companies or start their own.

Tailoring, Fashion, and Design
Uganda’s growing fashion industry provides a ready market for locally made clothing. Once trained, our mothers can create and sell their products for income and independence.

Music and Talent Development
Trainees learn musical instruments like piano, guitar, and jazz band instruments, as well as singing techniques. This helps them serve in churches, schools, or as instructors.

The Need
To sustain and expand our Skilling and Hands-On Program, Kairos Building Bridges Uganda urgently needs:
●Training equipment: sewing machines, ovens, hair dryers, soap-making machines, and baking tools
●Raw materials and supplies for hands-on training
●School fees and scholastic materials for teenage mothers in the Back-to-School program
●Startup packages for every woman graduating from our training programs
●Funds to establish a permanent Skilling Centre, including:
*Purchase of land
*Construction of training blocks
*Equipping the centre with modern tools
*Hiring professional instructors
*Securing government accreditation for certificates and diplomas
“Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.” — Proverbs 31:31
